Yes! There are cherries on the Prairies. We have Evans, Romeo, Julliet, Cupid, and Valentine Cherries, although most of them are not yet producing. Our Evans and Romeo Cherries are now producing (finally!), but with limited quantities as the trees are still immature. Therefore cherry picking is done by appointment only. Contact us if you’d like to be put on a cherry picking list.
For those unfamiliar with these sour cherry varieties, the fruit size is similar to that of BC cherries, but they are bright red, and positively bursting with flavour! They are wonderful for fresh eating, canning, or preserves. We put them in smoothies every chance we get. They are healthy, delicious, and freeze and can well. They make an incredible cherry pie, jam, syrup, cobbler – you name it. My kids like to just eat them frozen right out of the bag all winter long.
